NESA is now under plan to make mathematics compulsory for all future year 11 and 12 students. Maths experts has stated that it is essential for graduates to have key numeracy skills upon finishing their High School Certificate. This may also be beneficial for the future when students enter the workforce to have a basic understanding a level of numeracy skills.
There has been a major decline in the level of interest within students to study a maths or science subject since the government put a stop on making the subjects mandatory for their HSC’s. Due to this there is a dire shortage of specialist teachers that are available to teach all students.
